MODESTO, Calif. -- Washington State University senior, Demetrius Murray
(Tacoma), soared to a season-best 53-feet, 3 1/2 inches for an NCAA
Provisional Qualifying mark and second place at the Modesto Relays,
Saturday.
Cougar Anson Henry improved his 100m dash time with a 10.45 seconds
clocking in the finals at the prestigious two-day meet which attracts
both collegiate and elite athletes. All collegiate competition was
conducted Saturday.
Francesca Sewell improved her season-best mark in the long jump with a
leap of 20-2 1/4. Sewell also advanced to the 100m dash finals with a
preliminary time of 11.85 and a final time of 11.95. Places were not
available. Sewell's triple jump mark was 39-7 1/4.
Attrina Higgins also advanced to the 100m dash, tying her career-best
time of 11.83 in the prelims, and running 12.03 in the finals.
The much-anticipated women's 4x100m relay did not come off as planned by
the Cougars. Sharika Higgins, the running the leadoff leg, pulled up
with a leg cramp in her stint and did not make it to the handoff with
Randi Smith. Higgins was not able to compete in the 100m or 200m races.
The Pacific-10 Conference Track & Field Championships take place May
20-21, at Eugene, Oregon.
