


BYU Cougars Sweep WSU Volleyball

PROVO, Utah -- Sixth-ranked Brigham Young University took 53 minutes to
sweep the 24th-ranked Washington State volleyball team 15-12, 15-5, 15-0,
in a non-conference match at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah, Thursday night.
BYU's Helen Hjorth led all players with 10 kills. WSU's Missy Blackshire
and Colleen Smith each had five kills for the crimson and gray Cougars.
The host Cougars hit .387, had eight service aces and out-blocked WSU eight
to four. Washington State set a school record with a -.039 hitting
percentage with 19 kills and 22 errors on 76 attacks for the three games.
The third game lasted a mere 13 minutes as BYU's Andrea Petrilli served
eight unanswered points to start the final game.
BYU, 5-0, meets #2 Long Beach State (4-0) Friday night in Provo while
Washington State (2-2) will play the 49ers on Saturday afternoon at Smith
Fieldhouse.
