Cougars Power Past East Texas A&M in Four Sets

PHOENIX, Ariz. – (September 7, 2025) – Washington State volleyball wrapped up the weekend in Phoenix with a strong four-set victory over East Texas A&M (25-27, 25-23, 25-17, 25-22) on Sunday morning at the Global Credit Union Arena.
The Cougars (3-3, 0-0 WCC) bounced back after dropping the opening frame, locking in defensively and finding rhythm offensively to win three straight sets.
Junior outside hitter Lucie Blažková led the charge with a dominant all-around effort, tallying a team-high 19 kills on .410 hitting to go along with seven blocks. Melina Christodoulou provided a huge spark off the bench with 14 kills at a .379 clip, while Mary Healy added nine kills at .304.
Setter Italia Bernal directed the Cougar attack with 36 assists and chipped in two service aces, while freshman Livia Ward contributed 22 more assists to keep the offense balanced. On the defensive end, Tinons Munar Galmés paced WSU with 17 digs, and Eliana Ti'a added 14 digs to go along with 12 kills.
WSU's blocking proved to be a difference maker, as the Cougars out-blocked East Texas A&M 11-7, highlighted by Blažková and Kate Hayhurst combining for nine total rejections.

The Cougars have one final road non-conference tournament next weekend at the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. WSU will play Harvard on Friday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. PT and Seton Hall on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. PT.

- Lucie Blažkova saw career-highs in kills (19), attacks (39) and assists (3).
- Blažková hit .410 on the day, having hit over .400 in each of the first six matches of the season and is hitting .507 on the season.
- With her one solo block today, Blažková has 48 for her career, four shy of entering the WSU all-time top-10 list.
- Lucie Blažkova and Eliana Ti'a were both named to the GCU Classic All-Tournament Team
