December 07, 2024 | Track & Field
BOSTON, Mass. (Dec. 7, 2024) – Washington State Track & Field opened its 2024-25 Indoor season with strong performances from both Evans Kurui and Zenah Cheptoo, Saturday at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
Â
Kurui, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, broke the WSU freshman school record in the 5000m after posting a time of 13-minutes, 38.66 seconds to finish 38th overall in a quality field. Kurui's time also marked the third-fastest 5000m indoor time in WSU school history.
Â
Cheptoo, a redshirt-freshman from Nandi, Kenya, competed in the 3000m event, finishing in a time of 9:14.37, good for 33rd in the very competitive field. While nearly 17 seconds off her school record, it is a faster time than any other Cougar runner in program history.
Â
The Cougars return to the track Dec. 14 when they head north for the Spokane Invitational at The Podium.
