SAN FRANCISCO (May 23, 2023) – Washington State Baseball saw five players earn All-Pac-12 Conference recognition including All-Pac-12 selections
Sam Brown and
Jacob McKeon, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Brown and McKeon were each voted by the conference coaches to the all-league team while outfielder
Jonah Advincula, infielder
Elijah Hainline and right-handed pitcher
Dakota Hawkins all received honorable mention. The five selections are the most since the 2010 team had nine selections including two All-Pac-12 honors.
Brown, a junior first baseman, earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 Team after finishing the regular seasons sixth in the league with a .374 batting average, tied for third in doubles (19), tied for sixth in RBI (58), sixth in slugging (.674), seventh in on-base percentage (.481) and with a league-best 19 hit-by-pitches. In his first season after transferring from Portland, the lefthanded hitting Brown led the team with 22 multiple-hit games and 19 multiple-RBI games and posted a team season-long 14-game hitting streak. In conference play, Brown led WSU with a .343 batting average and 28 RBI.
McKeon becomes the first Cougar to earn All-Pac-12 honors in back-to-back seasons since pitcher Ian Hamilton in 2014 and 2015. McKeon was named as a designated hitter after hitting .341, tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with 18 doubles, added eight home runs, 47 RBI, 52 runs scored and was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. The senior from Phoenix tallied 21 multiple-hit games including the team's only five-hit game of the season, was second with 14 multiple-RBI games and closed his career with a 30-game on-base streak. McKeon, who earned all-league honors last season, also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-America honors last season and was recently named to the Academic All-District Team this season.
Advincula earned honorable mention in his first season at WSU after transferring from Redlands University (DIII). The junior outfielder and leadoff man finished the regular season third in the Pac-12 in doubles (20) and stolen bases (24), the most doubles by a Cougar since 2006 and most stolen bases since 1996. Advincula was ninth in the league in hitting (.350) and added four triples, five home runs, 33 RBI, 70 hits and a team-best 53 runs scored. The Santa Clara, Calif. native recorded 21 multiple-hit games including six 3-hit games, added a 13-game hitting streak, a 22-game on-base streak and opened the season earning Pac-12 Player of the Week honors.
Hainline enjoyed a breakout sophomore season with a .337 batting average, 12 doubles, 10 stolen bases and a team-high 12 home runs, the most by a Cougar since 2012. The Spokane, Wash. native hit a walkoff solo home run to beat Santa Clara, recorded 20 multiple-hit games including six 3-hit games and was third on the team with 10 multiple-RBI games. In Pac-12 play, Hainline hit .314 with six doubles, 14 RBI, nine stolen bases and tied for the team-lead with five home runs. In the classroom, the second baseman earned Academic All-District honors after posting a 3.8 GPA while majoring in kinesiology.
Hawkins closes his Cougar career earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention after tying for the team lead with five wins, fifth in the Pac-12 in innings (73.0) and third in strikeouts (92), the ninth-most strikeouts in WSU single-season history. The Chehalis, Wash. native earned Collegiate Baseball National Pitcher of the Week honors after a 10-strikeout performance in a win over Oregon and a 12-strikeout win over Washington, tied for the fourth-most strikeouts in WSU single-game history and the second-most by a Cougar against UW in series history. In Pac-12 play, the righthander went 4-2 with 63 strikeouts in 53.2 innings.
