Yanagi, who is the first Coug to participate in an NCAA Men's Golf Regional in a decade, ended his run at the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional by shooting 2-over 74 for the third-consecutive round. "Pono played some really nice golf this week," said Washington State Men's Golf Head Coach Dustin White. "He just wasn't able to capitalize on a lot of his good shots. He carried himself well and did a good job managing his way around a tough golf course. This was another great learning experience for him and will serve him well next year. Getting a taste of the postseason is a big motivator and something he can also share with the rest of the guys. We're proud and he should be too."
The senior from Hilo, Hawai'i collected the third-most pars over the duration of the tournament, as he ended his stay at The Institute carding par on 39 holes. Yanagi also posted the fourth-best score on par 3 holes in the tournament at 1-over.
Florida State's Luke Clanton won the individual title at the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional, as he shot 6-under 210 over three rounds. No. 18-ranked Mississippi State captured the team title with a team score of 1-under 863.
