Sam Renner and sophomore
Dylan Burcham each went under par to highlight Washington State's play during the second round of the John Burns Intercollegiate, played Friday on the 7,156-yard, par 70 Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The Cougars improved by seven strokes over Thursday's opening round performance as they finished at 2-over, 282, and have a two-round score of 11-over, 571, up one spot from yesterday and along in 13th place. Loyola Marymount and Texas A&M are tied at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under, three strokes ahead of UNLV.
Renner ended his second round with a 1-under, 69, a round that featured five birdies and 10 pars. Renner is even par, 140, after 36 holes and moved up 15 spots from Thursday to a tie for 17th entering Saturday's final round.
Burcham made the biggest jump on the team from the first to second rounds, shooting a 1-under 69 after opening with a 6-over, 76. Burcham's round included three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars as he moved 34 spots up the leaderboard and sits tied for 55th at 5-over, 145.
Freshman
Dylan Boenning, who opened the tournament with an even-par, 70 on Thursday, posted a 3-over, 73 Friday. He began his round with two birdies in his first four holes but managed just one more the rest of the way, mixed around four bogeys and a double. Benning enters Saturday's final round at 3-over, 143, tied for 37th overall.
Redshirt-junior
Ben Borgida improved his second-round score by four strokes as he posted a 1-over, 71, after opening Thursday with a 5-over, 75. Borgida was in control through eight holes, getting to 2-under on the round before three-straight bogeys took him to 2-over. Six pars sandwiched around another birdie brought Borgida back to 1-over and now he ends his first 36 holes at 6-over, 146, tied for 67th overall.
Freshman
Christian Flick, who opened with a 73 on Thursday, followed that with a 4-over, 74 on Friday. Flick highlighted his round with an eagle on the par-5 second hole as he sits at 7-over, 177, tied for 72nd overall.
Sophomore
Garrett Harrison, playing as an individual, had two birdies en route to a second-round 76, giving him a 36-hole score of 11-over, 151, tied for 87th.
The final day of the John Burns Intercollegiate gets underway at 11 a.m. PT Saturday.
