LIHU'E, Hawai'i (Feb. 12, 2026) – Freshman Dylan Boenning fired an ever-par, 70, to lead Washington State during a windy first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate, played Thursday on the 7,156-yard, par 70 Ocean Course at Hokuala.
 
The Cougars, in their 2026 season-opening event, shot a 9-over, 289, and sit 14th in the 19-team field. Only three teams managed to break par on the first day, as Loyola Marymount leads the field at 4-under, followed by Texas A&M at 3-under and Long Beach State at 2-under.
 
Boenning's day started slow as he began on Hole 13 with a par before a double bogey and bogey on the next two holes left him 3-over after three holes. The freshman showed his composure as he fired three birdies and 12 pars over his final 15 holes to finish the day at even-par, tied for 21st.
 
Senior Sam Renner was up and down as his card included an eagle on the par-5 second, two birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey and 12 pars en route to a 1-over, 71, tied for 32nd. Freshman Christian Flick also had a slow start to his round as he posted three bogeys on his first five holes. From there he settled down with a birdie and bogey over the final 13 holes to end his round at 3-over, 73, tied for 58th overall.
 
Redshirt-junior Ben Borgida opened his day with a birdie on the par-4 13th but did not manage another one as he finished his round at 5-over, 75, tied for 77th overall. Sophomore Dylan Burcham played his first nine holes at even par then struggled on his back nine, going 6-over to finish his first 18 holes at 6-over, 76, tied for 89th.
 
Sophomore Garrett Harrison, playing as an individual, fired an opening-round of 5-over, 75, a round that included three birdies on the day.
 
The second day of the John Burns Intercollegiate gets underway at 11 a.m. PT Friday.
