ELLENSBURG, Wash. —With most of the full squad back home prepping for the final stretch of the outdoor season, a small contingent of Washington State University men's and women's track and field student-athletes dominated the Wildcat Open in Ellensburg, Wash., finishing with a total of five event wins and eight top-three finishes Saturday at the CWU Recreation Sports Complex.
Samantha Boyle tallied her second-career win in the women's 1500m after posting a time of 4:53.96.
Maya Nichols finished fourth (5:00.78) in the event while
Sophia Cushman rounded out the top five (5:01.55).
Laura Lindquist opened up the meet with a first-place finish (42.51m) in the women's javelin, moving into the top spot on her final throw of the day. The Cougars swept the men's discus throw as
Max Moore picked up his first Cougar win with a personal-best mark of 52.26m.
Caden Hottman also posted a personal-best mark (47.67m) to place third in the event.
Amy Kraemer hit a mark of 55.04m to take first in the women's hammer throw while her teammate
Tara Koonce finished in second with a final mark of 53.75m. On the men's side,
Caden Hottman picked up the third win on his young career with a mark of 54.10m to win the hammer.

Washington State will compete in its final week of pre-championship meets next weekend with one final split weekend to include the Fresno State Invitational (Apr. 28-29) and the Oregon State High Performance Meet (Apr. 28-29). The Cougars will turn the page to championship season in May beginning with the 2023 Pac-12 Championships back at Mt San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.
