SAN DIEGO – The Washington State women's rowing team put forth a solid effort against some of the top teams in the nation on day two of the 50th San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay.
It was championship Sunday at the San Diego Crew Classic, as Washington State had its varsity 4+, second varsity 8+, and third varsity 8+ boats compete in an A final, while the first varsity 8+ boat rowed in a B final.
"We gained a huge amount of information and uncovered a few areas to work on next week," said WSU Women's Rowing Coach Jane LaRiviere. "We are eager to get back at it next week at home."
WSU's 2V8+ crew captured the team's highest finish at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, as the Cougars took sixth in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy race. Washington State finished the 2V8+ race in 7:12.739. No. 1-ranked Texas won the race with a time of 6:40.283.
The Cougars' V4+ crew finished seventh in the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup race with a time of 8:02.490. The Longhorns also captured the V4+ title at the San Diego Crew Classic, winning the race in 6:40.283.
The 1V8+ boat competed against Notre Dame in the B Final of the Jessop-Whittier Cup. Washington State finished second to the Fighting Irish, as the Cougs clocked in at 7:00.943. The 3V8+ capped off WSU's stay at the San Diego Crew Classic by placing sixth in the A final of the Carley Copley Cup with a time of 7:33.540.
