AUSTIN, Texas/ SAN MARCOS, Texas/ STANFORD, Calif. - Outdoor action ramped up for Washington State men's and women's track and field with five WSU top-10 times highlighted by
Alaina Stone Boggs winning the Stanford Invitational women's 5,000m in 16:14.77, the fastest in the Pac-12 this season.
The Cougars continued competition Friday across three meets; The Stanford Invitational at
Cobb Track and Angell Field, The Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State, and the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the site of this year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
STANFORD INVITATIONAL DAY 1 RECAP
Alaina Stone Boggs posted the best finish of the day for the Cougars in the Bay Area as she won the women's 5000m run, improving on her PR with the fourth-fastest time in WSU history (16:14.77) while
Cristina Molteni moved into eighth all-time with a fifth-place finish in the same race at 16:24.13.
Leif Swanson shaved nearly 30 seconds off of his outdoor PR in the men's 5000m run (14:08.41) and
Nana Gyedu posted the best finish for the Cougar throwers, notching a personal-best mark of 15.41m in the women's shot put. Gyedu secured her spot in finals with a 14.99m mark on her third throw in prelims and followed up with the 50-foot, 6.75-inch effort to strengthen her fourth-place position on the WSU all-time list.
TEXAS RELAYS DAY 3 RECAP
Louie Hinchliffe clocked a 10.23 in the men's 100m dash, the fourth-fastest time in WSU history, and placed fourth overall Friday in his outdoor debut for the Cougars.
Hinchliffe, Mason Lawyer, Bode Brewer and John Parades placed fourth-overall as a team in men's 4x100 timed event with a time of 40.89.
Elise Unruh-Thomas ran the fourth-fastest women's 100m dash time in WSU history (11.57) – passing Regyn Gaffney from 2017 – while placing seventh in the women's timed finals.
BOBCAT INVITATIONAL DAY 1
Mackenzie Fletcher (1:00.47) and
Jada Van Staden (1:01.33) highlighted the women 400-meter hurdles, as the duo took first and third overall, respectively. Fletcher won her heat and led start-to-finish, notching her second-consecutive win in the event to begin the outdoor season.
Elise Unruh-Thomas notched a personal best time in the women's 200m at 23.73 (seventh-place) while teammate
Jasneet Nijjar also hit a PR just fractions of a second slower at 23.99 (17
th-place).
UP NEXT: The Cougars' three road meets will each conclude Saturday. Washington State track and field will be back in action from the Pacific Northwest next weekend with the Whitworth Peace Meet on Fri., April 7.
