PULLMAN, Wash. (March 19, 2023) – Washington State dropped a 13-7 contest to Oregon at Bailey-Brayton Field Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars dropped to 14-5 overall and 3-3 in Pac-12 Conference play while the Ducks improved to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in league play after collecting 16 hits in the series-clinching win. WSU scored seven runs in the first inning but Oregon rallied with two in the fourth, three in the fifth and seven in the seventh.

WSU received a two-hit game from
Cam Magee and two RBI from
Jacob Morrow while starting pitcher
Grant Taylor battled through five innings and struck out a career-high nine. Cougar pitching combined for 17 strikeouts for the second game during the series and third time this season.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
In the first, WSU answered Oregon's leadoff solo homer with a seven runs in the bottom half. The Cougars loaded the bases and Morrow delivered a two-run single into left-centerfield,
Greg Fuchs followed with an RBI-fielders choice groundout that Oregon also threw into left field to allow another run to score.
Kyle Russell added an RBI-single into centerfield,
Jonah Advincula later worked a bases-loaded walk and
Cam Magee capped the scoring with an RBI-groundout for a 7-1 lead.

Oregon added a two-run homer in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to make it a one-run game.

Connor Wilford struck out the side in the sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh as Oregon blooped a single down the right field line and followed with an RBI-double down the right field line that tied the game at seven. Following a wild pitch and with the infield drawn in, the next Oregon hitter chopped an infield-single to shortstop that brought home the go-ahead run. The Ducks later added two-run single to left field and a three-run home run to left field for a 13-7 advantage.
