Caicedo wraps up indoor season with All-American honors

| By:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M -- Maribel Caicedo finished sixth at 8.29 seconds in the secnod heat of the women's 60m hurdles Friday, day one of the 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. She finished 13th overall in the event, earning second team All-American honors.

Caicedo, the first championships qualifier in the women's 60m hurdles in WSU history, is also the first women's indoor All-American since Charisma Taylor earned back-to-back nods in the triple jump from 2020 and 2021.

A graduate student from Ecuador, Caicedo lowered the program record in the women's 60m hurdles twice on the season, highlighted by a 7.99 to win the event at the Don Kirby Elite last month.

"Not what she hoped. But given the situation with three false starts, being an NCAA All-American is still pretty awesome for your first ever NCAA meet," Head Coach Wayne Phipps said.
The Cougar track and field squad will open the 2023 outdoor track and field season with the GCU Invitational (March 17-18) in Phoenix, Ariz.
