LAST TIME OUT
Washington State men's and women's indoor track and field teams will reunite after a split weekend last week that saw the Cougars travel between the UNM Team open at the New Mexico Convention Center, the UW Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor, and the Inland NW Invitational at The Podium.

Maribel Caicedo (8.14) won her second 60m-hurdles title of the 2022-23 indoor season while her teammate Micaela De Mello took third in the women's final. John Parades finished runner-up in the men's 60m hurdles final while the women's 4X400m relay team captured its first win of the season. The relay team of Renee Yang, Jasneet Nijjar, Jada Van Staden and Elena Willems clocked a 3:43.70, nearly a four-second improvement over the previous best time on the season.

Washington State's men's and women's distance groups returned to action at the UW Invitational where Neema Kimtai (mile, 4:49.96), Alaina Stone Boggs (3,000m, 9:25.73), Kyle Ortega-Gammill (mile, 4:08.65), Brian Barsaiya (3,000m, 8:09.87) and Pascal Kleyer (800m, 1:56.57) each ran season-best times for WSU in their respective events.

IN THE RANKINGS:
Washington State's women's hurdles group climbed to No. 4 in the nation with an average time of 8.45 so far on the season. Maribel Caicedo (8.05) has the fourth-fastest time this indoor season and lowered the WSU program record at the Cougar Classic while her teammate, Micaela De Mello (8.20), owns the 13th-best time in the country.

Mason Lawyer (6.75) set the WSU freshman record in the men's 60m dash, ranking 84th in the nation going into the weekend. Lawyer dropped the 200m freshman record to 21.26 which is the 66th-best time in the NCAA.

THE FIELD:
The 2023 WSU Open & Multi will feature teams from across the NCAA and various NAIA programs.  The Cougars will see a handful of their Pac-12 rivals including: Arizona, Colorado, California, Oregon State, Utah and Washington.

Competitors in attendance will also feature athletes representing teams from the Big Sky, the West Coast Conference, and the Big West, in addition to several clubs teams such as Kajaks, Nike OMORPHO and Super Thrower Track Club.

UP NEXT:
The Cougs will split squad again next week as the indoor season begins to build towards the indoor championships season.  Washington State will send athletes to the Don Kirby Elite on Feb. 10-11 back inside the Albuquerque Convention Center, the Husky Classic at the Dempsy Indoor and the Whitworth Open at The Podium.
