Three Cougs Add Individual Wins as Cougs Wrap Up MPSF Championships

Reno, Nevada – Cheptoo, Longisa, and Kipchoge all brought home individual wins for the Cougs on the final day of the MPSF Championships. The Cougar men finished in fourth with 72 points on the weekend. The women finished in fifth in a very competitive field and 61 points on the weekend.
Zenah Cheptoo started the morning off with winning ways, finishing first in the Women's Mile with a time of 4 minutes and 47.97 seconds. Her time was roughly four seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Hailey Cossey was the next finisher for the Cougs, finishing in seventh with a time of 4 minutes and 55.52 seconds. Nicole Bissell finished in ninth with a sub-5-minute time of 4 minutes and 59.10 seconds.
Ku Stevens was the top finisher for the Cougs in the Men's Mile. His time of 4 minutes and 22.76 seconds was good for sixth and earned the Cougs three points.
Rosemary Longisa got the Cougs' second win of the day in the Women's 800m. Her time of 2 minutes and 7.65 seconds was three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Daphne Evenson was the second-best finisher for the Cougs in the 800, finishing in ninth with a time of 2 minutes and 13.10 seconds.
The Verges brothers finished in 10th and 13th in the Men's 800m with competitive times in an impressive field.
In the Women's 3000m, Brenda Kibor brought home the silver with a time of 9 minutes and 38.19 seconds. Caroline Jepkorir was the next best finisher for the Cougs, finishing in fourth with a time of 9 minutes and 44.04 seconds. Mercy Biwott rounded out the top five of the race, finishing in 9 minutes and 48.61 seconds.
Solomon Kipchoge brought home the third team win of the day and his second individual win of the weekend in the Men's 3000m. His time of 8 minutes and 2.22 seconds was his best of the season. Evans Kurui fought hard til the end and finished a second behind his teammate. Josphat Meli was the third-best finisher for the Cougs and fourth-best in the race, finishing in 8 minutes and 18.17 seconds. Ku Stevens rounded out the top five with an impressive time of 8 minutes and 18.34 seconds. Five of the top six finishers were WSU runners.
Rosemary Longisa will compete in the 800m and Mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 13th- March 14th.
