Rowing Wraps Weekend at Burnaby Small Boat Regatta

BURNABY, B.C. – The Washington State women's rowing team completed its weekend of competition at Burnaby Lake, competing in the Burnaby Small Boat Regatta, Sunday, Oct. 8. The Cougars raced two single sculls, and eight pairs comprising the varsity and JV boats. The 4-kilometer head race was followed by an afternoon 250m sprint final for the top six finishers in each event.
Elle Kadir sculled a single in the women's race, finishing fifth with a time of 19:44.39 to earn qualification into the afternoon sprint final. In the 250-meter sprint final, Kadir finished fourth in 55.618.
"It was awesome to get five races in the weekend," WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "Big thank you to UBC for hosting us. We learned a lot, and I'm proud of the start for the Cougs."
In the women's pairs event, two Cougar crews clinched top-10 finishes, competing against teams from the University of Washington and University of British Columbia. Ilaria Macchi stroked the WSU B pair with Siena Snow in bow, to a ninth-place finish in 17:11.152. WSU's G shell, stroked by Sydney Wick, rounded out the top-10 finishers with a time of 17:16.108.
Washington State's A pair, with Fiona Elliott in front of Eliza Dawson, clinched 11th in 17:16.108. WSU D, stroked by Jaeve Porberts, finished just behind at 12th with a time of 17:28.525. WSU C also notched a top-15 finish, clocking at 17:32.318 and 14th place.
The Cougar pairs were rounded out with WSU F in 17th in 17:40.830, WSU H at 17:45.699 (19th), and WSU E at 20th and a time of 17:52.471.
