LOS ANGELES — Fourth-ranked Washington State volleyball (17-3, 7-2 Pac-12) jumped ahead early on the road in the Galen Center, winning the first two sets in a 3-0 (17-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-0) loss on the road at USC (12-7, 6-3 Pac-12) Friday night.

Pia Timmer finished with a team-high 18 kills while Katy Ryan tallied 12 kills while hitting .435 for the match.  Iman Isanovic added a double double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Argentina Ung also finished with a double double in the box score, tallying 38 assists and 14 digs to go along with six blocks and four kills at the net.

Karly Basham was just one dig shy of her season high with a team-leading 20 digs and four assists, making big plays down the stretch to keep the Cougs in the match late.

The Cougars hit .353 as a team in the opening set, and won 12-of-15 (80 percent) sideout points in a dominant 25-14 second set to seize control of the match early.  USC hit only .037 in the second set with a combined eight kills as a team.  The Trojans responded with 18 kills as a team in the third set and only three total errors between the fourth and fifth sets combined.

Washington State, conversely, suffered from four attack errors as a team in the fifth set as the Trojans ran away with the five-set, comeback win behind a .533 attack percentage in the fifth.

Despite racking up a season-high 16 blocks as a team, USC was able to find 64 kills as a team to go along with a 7-4 advantage in aces as the Cougars dropped just their second road match of the season.
