NEW ORLEANS - Washington State outdoor track and field teams had six student-athletes formally recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) as All-America honorees on Monday.

Valentina Barrios Bornacelli (first team, women's javelin), Micaela De Mello (honorable mention, 100m hurdles) and Aislinn Overby (honorable mention, high jump) received All-America recognition on the women's side and Mitch Jacobson (first team, men's high jump), Colton Johnsen (second team, men's steeplechase) and Jacob Englar (honorable mention, men's pole vault) earned All-America status for the men.

Student-athletes earned First-Team All-America status by finishing among the top-8 of their events – including as a member of a relay – at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Eugene, Oregon. Second-Team All-America honors went to those student-athletes who finished between ninth and 16th place.  Honorable mention went to those student-athletes who finished 17th through 24th in their respective events at Hayward Field.

Johnsen set a new PR to advance in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:31.64) on night one of the men's championships.  He would finish 11th-overall in the event to finish his collegiate running career with back-to-back All-American finishes in the steeplechase.

Barrios Bornacelli then set a new PR and freshman record (54.03m./177'-3") in the women's javelin to earn an eighth-place overall finish in her outdoor championships debut.

After suffering from a no-height in his second-career outdoor championships appearance in 2021, Jacobson bounced back to go out with first-team All-America honors after a personal-best jump of 2.21m (7'-3") and fifth-overall finish in Friday's men's high jump final.
