Mullins Competes at NCAA XC Championships

The lone Cougar places 123rd out of 256 of the top runners in the country.
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Washington State women's cross country program saw Erin Mullins run at the NCAA Cross Country Championship Monday morning, from Stillwater, Okla., hosted by Oklahoma State University.
Mullins ran a tough race against 256 of the best runners in the country, placing 123rd overall with a time of 21:41.5 during the morning race. Erin led Washington State throughout the spring at numerous races, earning a fourth place finish at the Idaho Orchards Invitational, and placing 36th overall at the Battle Born Collegiate Challenge.
Erin secured her spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships by finishing 13th overall with a time of 19:56.90 at the Pac-12 Championships. She also earned a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection with her impressive effort that day. The last WSU women's runner to earn All-Pac-12 honors was NCAA All-American Vallery Korir who also placed 13th during the 2017 Pac-12 Championships. Korir is also the last WSU women's runner to compete at the NCAA Championships, which occurred during the 2017 season.
"Erin truly had a breakout season and made so much improvement this year," Head Coach Wayne Phipps said. "She had an awesome race today, especially with it being her very first NCAA Championship race."
BYU was crowned team national championships after totaling 96 points overall, followed by North Carolina State in second with 161 points, and then Stanford in third place at 207 points. Alabama's Mercy Chelangat earned the women's individual national title after finishing with a time of 20:01.1 to lead the way.
