Kalyah Williams leads the Cougs in a 3-1 victory over Sun Devils.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Washington State Volleyball completed the series sweep of Arizona State Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over the Sun Devils.

Set scores from the match were: 22-25, 25-16, 25-16, and 25-19 in favor of the Cougars (3-1, 3-1 Pac-12).

The opening set featured an early back-and-forth between the Cougars and the Sun Devils of Arizona State (1-3, 1-3 Pac-12), until a 5-1 scoring run from WSU gave the Cougs a 7-5 advantage. Washington State saw hot offensive starts from Julianna Dalton, Kalyah Williams, Pia Timmer, and Magda Jehlarova. Another 5-1 run from the Cougars put the score at 12-9, after an incredible block from Williams and Timmer. Arizona State continued to counter WSU's scoring runs, until another Coug batch of points featuring a Penny Tusa ace and kill, put the score at 19-16. However the Sun Devils generated a big 9-2 scoring run of their own to end the first set with a 25-22 win over WSU.

Arizona State began set two with a slim 4-1 lead, until the Cougs began fighting right back with a 6-1 run of their own fueled by Dalton, Timmer and Magda kills. Washington State started to heat up with a 9-3 run, as a Jehlarova ace and a solo block from Williams shot the Cougars ahead to a 20-14 lead. WSU kept the foot on the pedal offensively with a 5-1 run with kill sfrom Tusa, Timmer and Williams for the 25-16 set victory.

The Cougars picked up where they left off in the previous set, scoring five consecutive to open set number three with multiple kills from Pia and a block from both Dalton and Williams. WSU continued to piece together small scoring run throughout, until a massive scoring outburst from the Cougs put them comfortably in the lead at 23-15. Kalyah ultimately finished the set win off with a kill for the 25-16 win for the Cougs.

Set number four was a close battle early on, with five ties until Washington State managed to create a solid scoring run of 6-1 to take a 20-15 advantage. The offense was clicking for the Cougars during this run, along with a strong defensive front of Dalton, Williams and Jehlarova. WSU posted four consecutive points to cap off the match victory, with a final kill from Timmer at 25-19.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Kalyah Williams posted a career day against the Sun Devils with 12 total kills, which ties her career-high, along with a hitting percentage of .455, a career-high for the sophomore. Williams also posted seven total blocks, another career-high.

MATCH NOTES

Hannah Pukis posted her fourth consecutive double-double with 42 assists and 13 digs during the contest. She also added two kills and two blocks in the match.
Pia Timmer added another double-double this season with 10 kills and 13 digs. Timmer saw success defensively as well with three blocks.
Freshman Julianna Dalton continued to find open space on the floor offensively with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .276. Dalton added six blocks during the match to help anchor the defensive front.
Magda Jehlarova continued to dominate both offensively and defensively with 11 kills, a hitting percentage of .526, and seven total blocks.
