BANDON, Ore – Freshman Christian Yanagi and senior Nicklaus Chiam both shot 1-under 70 to help the Washington State men's golf team turn in a 19-stroke improvement in the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship on Monday.

The Cougars had four players shoot 1-over or better during the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship, as WSU posted a 1-under 283 to jump up to 11th on the team leaderboard. Washington State opens the third, and final, round of play on Tuesday just three strokes from moving into the top 10.

Yanagi ended his second round strong, making two of his three birdies on the round in the back nine. After going 4-over in the first eighteen holes, Yaagi battled back to 1-under 70 on Monday's second round, to put him in a tie for 34th heading into Tuesday.

Chiam caught fire on the course in the second round, sinking two of his three birdies in his front nine. The senior also made an eagle, his first of the season, in his back nine. Chaim has a share of 41st place after a 1-under 70 performance in the second round.

Freshman Yuya Eguchi also rallied after a 5-over first round. Eguchi made four birdies on the day and shot an even-par 71. Eguchi has a two-round score of 147 (+5) and is tied for 56th. Senior Daniel Kolar is just one stroke behind Eguchi, going 1-over on his second round. Kolar is tied for 56th with a two-round score of 148 (+6).

Senior Scott Redelsperger, golfing as an individual, went 4-over 75 during his second round of play and is tied for 61st. Freshman Tianyu Wu went 9-over 80 and is tied for 87th.

Oregon State has a six-stroke lead for first place ahead of Oregon. Individually, Devon Bling from UCLA and Nathan Cogswell from Seattle U. are tied for first.
