Chiam Goes Top-15 in Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore – Washington State men's golfer Nicklaus Chiam went low during his final round at the Bandon Dunes Championship, making a 4-under 67 to lead the charge for the Cougars in the tournament's third round, as he ends the tournament in a tie for 12th at 213 (E).

The senior continued his strong play on the Pacific Dunes Golf Course on Tuesday, as Chiam ended the third round going 4-under, 67, after finishing Monday's second round at 1-under 70. Chiam made five birdies in the third round, which include three-straight birdies during his front nine. The senior finished with a three-round score of 213 ( E ) to earn his third top-15 finish of the year.

As a team, Washington State concludes the Bandon Dunes Championship in 11th place, scoring a 873 (+21) over the three-day tournament.


"We're close to putting it all together," said head coach Dustin White. "We had some really exciting stretches and were on our way to having the lowest round of the day today. Just need to find a way to finish it off, and we will."

Freshman Christian Yanagi and Yuya Eguchi both tied for 51st after going 8-over, 221. Yanagi made three birdies during his final 18 holes, two of which came during his back nine. Yanagi finished his third round at 5-over, 76. Eguchi went 3-over, 74 on his final round, making two birdies on his back nine.

One-stroke behind Yanagi and Eguchi was senior Daniel Kolar. The senior made two birdies on the day and finished in a tie for 54th on the player leaderboard with a three-round score of 222 (+9). Freshman Tianyu Wu tied for 80th with a score of 228 (+15). Senior Scott Redelsperger, who is golfing as an individual, finished in a tied for 91st with a three-round score of 232 (+19).

"We're getting a little better each week and that's what we set out to do," added coach White. "Nicklaus played really well today and overall, each guy pitched in to make this a team effort. Now we look ahead to Stanford and how we can begin to put all three rounds together."
