November 17, 2020 | WSU Athletics
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The NCAA released the latest Division I graduation rate data, including the division's Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which included a program-best score for Washington State Athletics.
Â
Washington State's GSR score rose one percent to a record 87 percent, continuing a trend that has seen the Cougars improve their score in each of the past five years. Dating back to 2008 when WSU's GSR score was 77 percent, measured gains have been recorded with scores of 78% (2009), 80% (2010), 81% (2011), 86% (2012) and this year's 87%.
Â
"The most recent data from the NCAA regarding graduation rates reaffirms the commitment from both our student-athletes and staff in support of WSU's academic mission," said WSU Director of Athletics Pat Chun. "As an athletics department, we strive to unleash excellence within our student-athletes, on the field of play, in the classroom and throughout our community. That trend continues to be on an upward trajectory."
Â
For the most recent data, WSU had three sport programs, men's basketball, along with women's and men's golf, all recorded perfect GSR scores of 100. It marked the third-straight year men's golf recorded a perfect score while the women's program posted it's second consecutive score of 100. Additionally, five programs set or tied their all-time high GSR score, football (82), volleyball (85), in addition to men's basketball (100), men's golf (100) and women's golf (100). In all, nine of WSU's 13 programs remained constant or improved over last year's score.
Â
The GSR includes student-athletes who received athletic aid and enrolled at Washington State as freshmen or transfer students between 2010-13, and completed their degree within six years.
