Bayerlova Named All-Pac-12 First Team, Mylonas Honorable Mention

SAN FRANCISCO - Washington State University sophomore tennis player Michaela Bayerlova has been named to the 2019 All-Pac-12 Conference First Team, while senior Tiffany Mylonas was an honorable mention selection, the conference announced Tuesday.

Bayerlova is a repeat selection on the conference's first team, last year becoming the first player to receive first-team honors since the northern and southern divisions combined prior to the 1998 season. This is the first conference honor for Mylonas.

"Michaela being selected for a second straight year to the All-Pac-12 first team is a tremendous honor," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart. "The Pac-12 Conference has several worthy players and to be selected as one of the elite is a testament to Michaela's results over the course of the entire season.

"This honor is a great way for Tiffany to end her career at WSU," Hart continued. "Tiffany found ways to win a lot of conference matches and led our team in conference wins this year in single and doubles. This is only the second time in school history we have had two players selected and I couldn't be more proud of them."

Bayerlova, from Krumbach, Germany, has put together another strong season, posting a 22-7 singles record and currently boasts a No. 42 national ranking. Last week she was selected to the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship field for the second-straight year. This season, Bayerlova is 18-5 in dual matches and 7-5 against nationally-ranked players. She was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week last month after back-to-back victories over No. 38 Jada Hart of UCLA and NO. 46 Salma Ewing of USC. She posted a 6-3 conference record, all at No. 1, and reached a career-high ranking of No. 17 during the season.

Mylonas, from Brussels, Belgium, had a tremendous senior campaign, leading WSU in singles wins with 26 and also doubles with 26. In singles, she went 26-9 playing near the top of the Cougar lineup. She reached a high of 115 in the ITA Singles rankings and had four match-clinching victories in 2019. In doubles, she teamed with Hikaru Sato at the No. 1 position. The duo is 6-2 against nationally-ranked players, including top 20 wins over No. 5 UCLA, No. 13 Miami and No. 14 Stanford. Last week they were selected to the 2019 NCAA Doubles Championship, the first Cougar doubles team to qualify for the championship since the 2002 season.

Washington State saw its team season come to an end last week in the first round of the NCAA Championship, falling 4-3 to No. 19 Miami. NCAA singles and doubles championships begin May 20 in Orlando, Fla.
