Cougars at Day One of Pac-12 Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Washington State University Track and Field program battled not only conference competition during day one of the Pac-12 Championships, but the elements as well, with events being delayed for a period of time due to weather. 

Zorana Grujic secured one point for the WSU women after finishing eighth overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:32.03. The relay team of Jordyn Tucker, Regyn Gaffney, Mackenzie Fletcher, and Tierney Silliman qualified for the 4x100m relay finals after posting a preliminary time of 45.78 and finished seventh. The evening was wrapped up with the 10,000m event where Janet Okeago finished the night off with a time of 37:57.64, placing 15th overall. 

Brock Eager and Amani Brown both locked down early points for the WSU men's squad in the hammer throw event to open the Pac-12 Championships. Eager took home the hammer title after a mark of 228-feet 8 inches (69.71m) secured 10 points for the Cougars. Brown went on to place sixth overall with a throw of 209-feet 10 inches (63.97m) and totaled three points for the team score as well. Emmanuel Wells Jr. qualified for the 100-meter dash finals after running a 10.36 to win heat number four. The time was not only a PR for Wells, but was also the 10th best 100m time in WSU history. Kyler Little notched three points for WSU in the 3000m steeplechase as well, with a time of 9:10.72 overall and recorded a sixth place finish.
