PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University men's and women's golf programs were recognized by the NCAA for ranking in the top 10 percent for Academic Performance Rate (APR) scores in 2017-18, it was announced Wednesday.

This marks the fifth-consecutive year the women's golf program achieved a perfect four-year APR score of 1,000 and received public recognition by the NCAA.

"This recognition is the culmination of tremendous work by our men's and women's golf student-athletes, coaches and academic staff, and they are to be applauded for their efforts," said WSU Faculty Athletics Representative Nancy Swanger. "Both programs should be honored by this great accomplishment and for the manner in which they represent Washington State University."

The honor is given to programs whose multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores are among the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort. The latest APR score takes into account the previous four academic years, this latest score beginning with 2014-15. WSU women's golf has registered perfect single-year APR scores for each of the last four academic years (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18).

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. Teams earning Public Recognition Awards increased to 1,284, up by 79 from the previous academic year, largely as a result of an increase in perfect scores. Of the teams recognized, 457 competed in men's or mixed sports, and 827 competed in women's sports. APRs for programs in the top 10 percent ranged from 985 to a perfect 1,000, and the number of teams posting perfect scores increased to 1,188, marking an increase of 98 teams from last year.

Multi-year APR scores for all Division I athletic programs, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced May 8.
