PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State tennis saw its three-match win streak snapped as the Cougars fell to No. 50 Arizona State, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.

With the loss, the No. 35 Cougars fall to 16-5 on the season, 1-3 in Pac-12 play. ASU improves to 10-8, 3-4.

The day began with doubles where the first two matches split victories. At No. 2, WSU's
Melisa Ates and Tang Lee cruised to a 6-2 victory over Tereza Kolarova and Savannah Slaysman. At No. 1, ASU's duo of Ilze Hattingh and Lauryn John-Baptiste, ranked No. 2 nationally, jumped to a 5-1 lead then held on to defeat
Tiffany Mylonas and
Hikaru Sato, 6-4.

The doubles point came down to No. 3 where WSU's
Aneta Miksovska and
Savanna Ly-Nguyen held leads of 4-2 and 5-3, but could not close out the match. In the tiebreaker, WSU led 3-0 but the ASU pair of Samantha Alicea and Sammi Hampton, ranked No. 67, rallied for a 7-5 tiebreaker win, giving the Sun Devils the early 1-0 lead.

In singles play, ASU captured the first three matches to finish to complete a 4-0 victory. At No. 4, Hampton won a first-set tiebreaker before closing out a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over Ly-Nguyen. Mylonas held a 4-1 lead in the second set but drew no closer at John-Baptiste, ranked No. 87, won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2.

On court 3, Sato had forced a third set after dropping the first against Kolarova, but the ASU sophomore closed out the third set 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, clinching the match for the Sun Devils.

With the team outcome decided, the three remaining matches were stopped. WSU's
Michaela Bayerlova was tied with Hattingh, 6-2, 4-6, 3-3 at No. 1, while Lee was leading Slaysman 4-1 at No. 5. The final match had just started with Alicea leading Miksovska, 1-0, at No. 6.

The Cougars conclude their season-long four-match homestand Sunday when they host Arizona. Match time is set for 10 a.m. at or the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
