LOS ANGELES - Continuing to his upward trend on the national scene, sophomore forward CJ Elleby was named to the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy's® Preseason Top 50 Watch List Tuesday morning. Elleby was previous named to the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award Watch List as well as the Preseason All-Pac-12 First Team.

The Wooden watch list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team™ and Most Outstanding Player Award. The Pac-12 leads the way with eight selections on the watch list while Elleby is one of just 16 underclassmen to work his way onto the list.

Elleby finished last season averaging 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He would go on to set the program's freshman scoring record with 471 points in 32 contests, breaking Steve Puidokas' 45-year-old freshman scoring record. In addition to his scoring, Elleby finished second all-time among Cougar freshman in rebounds (227), scoring average (14.7 ppg), and field goals (168), while finishing top-10 in eight other season categories. For his play, Elleby was named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 First Team in the inaugural season of the award.

Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women, The Wooden Award All American Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Honorees have proven to their university that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the John R.
