LOS ANGELES – Washington State volleyball was tripped up on the road against UCLA, falling to the Bruins 3-0 inside Pauley Pavilion.
Set scores from the match were: 20-25, 17-25, and 18-25 in favor of UCLA (8-4, 3-0 Pac-12).
The Cougars (12-3, 1-2 Pac-12), got off to a hot start in this conference match, totaling four straight points with some help from a kill by
Magda Jehlarova, an ace from
Hannah Pukis, and a solo block and block assist from Magda as well. The Bruins fought right back with a 4-0 run of their own to tie up the set at 5-5. This opening set featured nine total ties between these two programs, with the last occurring at 16-16. UCLA began to take control after a 5-0 run to jump out to a 20-16 lead. A pair of kills from
Gabbie Heller and Pukis brought the Cougars within two points, however UCLA closed out the set one victory at 25-20.

The second set of this contest featured UCLA jumping out of the gate to an 8-2 advantage over the Cougars. Kills from
Penny Tusa,
Pia Timmer, and
Jocelyn Urias aided Washington State's comeback as the deficit sat at 11-8 midway through the set. The Bruins continued to maintain their lead however, pushing that advantage out to 17-11. Despite back-to-back errors from UCLA, along with a
Julia Norville ace, the Bruins put together multiple small runs to cap off the set victory at 25-17.

The Bruins found some rhythm early in the third set of this contest, generating an 11-2 run against the Cougars. WSU began battling back with a few small runs, fueled by an Urias kill, and a block from both Lusby, and Jehlarova. The Bruins and the Cougars went on to trade points throughout the later stages of this set, but the early large lead from UCLA was the difference maker. An additional small run, with a kill from
Kalyah Williams closed the gap to 23-16, but the Bruins finished off WSU at 25-18 for the 3-0 overall win.

- Magda Jehlarova led WSU in kills with seven on the night, and led the team in total blocks as well with six overall.
- Â Alexis Dirige led the ground defensive game with 15 digs during the evening, and provided one assist as well.
- Â Ashley Brown anchored the Cougars in assists as she posted 14 in this contest, along with adding seven digs, and one block to her stat sheet.
- The Cougars hit the court next, Sunday, Oct. 6 as WSU will remain in the Los Angeles area and take on USC inside the Galen Center at 12 p.m.
