SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Washington State women's basketball standout Borislava Hristova once again finds her name among the best small forwards in the nation, as the three-time All-Pac-12 selection is one of 20 players selected to the Cheryl Miller Award watch list as announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Wednesday.
This marks the second-straight season that Hristova has been included on the prestigious Cheryl Miller Award watch list, which is presented annually to the best small forward in NCAA Division I. Last season, the Bulgarian native was one of 10 finalists for the honor, after putting together one of the most prolific seasons in WSU history by posting 19.9 points per game – the sixth-highest per game average in program history – and five double-doubles, en route to a first team All-Pac-12 selection.
Hristova's consistency and endurance were key for the Cougs last season, as she reached double-digits in all but two contests. That run was highlighted by a 19-game double-digit scoring streak to open 2018-19, which was the sixth-longest run in program history. The All-Pac-12 honoree logged 1,065 minutes played last year, which were the second-most in a single season in WSU history.
Started in 2018, the Selection Committee for the Cheryl Miller Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
The winner of the 2020 Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, California on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five.
The WSU women's basketball team unofficially opens the 2019-20 season next Thursday – Oct. 31 – with an exhibition contest against Beijing Normal University from China. Tip-off from Beasley Coliseum is set or 5:30 p.m.
