STOCKTON, Calif – Washington State University senior
Nicklaus Chiam posted a score of four-under-par, 68, Wednesday to lead WSU in the final round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational. As a team, the Cougars finished in 13th place at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
Entering the day at two-over-par, Chiam carded a season-best, four-under-par 68 in the final round. He started his day on the back nine, sinking a birdie on the first hole. Over his final nine holes Chiam was electric, posting two birdies followed by an eagle on the par-five sixth hole. Chiam finished tied for 15th overall with a three-round score of 214 (-2). It marked the third-straight tournament Chiam has led the Cougars.
Freshman
Christian Yanagi finished his strong tournament with a two-over-par, 74, in the final round. After a round round included two birdies on the back nine, Yanagi finished tied for 22nd finishing at even-par 216. Freshman
Yuya Eguchi started off on fire, carding three birdies on his first three holes, but a late double bogey led to a round 3-over. Eguchi tied for 63rd finishing with a three-day score of 225 (+9). Senior
Daniel Kolar posted a combined score of 227 (+11) and tied for 74
th while freshman
Clayton Thatcher carded a 236 (+20) and place 89th.
San Jose State (-13) led wire-to-wire, winning by three strokes ahead of BYU in second place. Nevada and Santa Clara tied for the best final round of the day at -8, finished third and fourth, respectively.
Individually, Sean Yu of San Jose State held first place through all three rounds, finishing with a total score 205 (-11), two strokes ahead of Santa Clara's Matthew McCarty and Nevada's Sam Harned.
The Cougars are back in action in late January when they take on the Arizona Intercollegiate after the winter break.
