Lisa Roman Returns to Canadian World Championship Team

Last year Roman's Canadian eight captured silver at the World Championships.
VICTORIA, British Columbia – Former Washington State rower Lisa Roman has been chosen again to represent Canada at the 2018 World Rowing Championships for the second year in a row, Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) announced Monday.Â
Roman has been named to the women's eight for the Championships which will be held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Sept. 9 - 16, 2018. Roman (Langley, B.C.) will be joined in the eight by fellow Olympians and World Championship returners Rebecca Zimmerman, Christine Roper, Susanne Grainger, Jennifer Martins, and coxswain Kristen Kit. 2018 Under 23 women's eight Gold medalists Sydney Payne, Madison Mailey and Stephanie Grauer will complete the women's eight team.
At the 2017 World Rowing Championships, Canada's women's eight secured Silver less than a second after Romania took Gold in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.Â
A transfer from University of the Fraser Valley, Roman competed with the Cougar varsity rowing team for three seasons, rowing in the varsity boat all three years (2010-12). She is a two-time all-conference honoree, and in 2012 was named to the CRCA All-West Region First Team and the Pocock All-America Second Team. She was a member of Canada's women's eight at the 2016 Olympic Games. In 2015-16, Roman was named to the Pac-12's All-Century Women's Rowing Team. Roman has been competing with the Canadian National Team since 2014. Prior to that she rowed for Canada's Western Rowing Club at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2011 and in the Under-23 World Rowing Championships in 2011.Â
RCA's 2018 National Team is led by men's head coach, Dick Tonks and women's head coach, Dave Thompson. Thompson will be supported by assistant coaches Michelle Darvill, Leslie Thompson-Willie and Phil Marshall while Tonks will be supported by assistant coach Jeremy Ivey.
CBC Sports will stream the semifinals and finals of the regatta from Friday, September 29 to Sunday, October 1.
