PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State senior
Barbora Michalkova captured the biggest victory of her career with a straight-set win over Stanford's 42nd-ranked Emily Arbuthnott but it was not enough as the No. 22 Cardinal posted a 4-2 win over the Cougars Friday at the Simmelink Tennis Courts. Michalkova, playing at No. 4, won 7-5, 6-2 over Arbuthnott, who lost for only the second in dual matches this season. Michalkova was not the only Cougar to register an upset as freshman
Michaela Bayerlova continued her dominant season with a three-set win over Stanford's Michaela Gordon, the nation's 15th-ranked player, who also holds a current world ranking of 595. Stanford grabbed an early lead after capturing the opening point with victories at two and three doubles. The number one match was stopped with WSU's Michalkova and
Melisa Ates tied 4-4 against the nation's No. 3-ranked team of Gordon and Arbuthnott. The Cardinal also received singles wins from Melissa Lord at No. 2 and Caroline Lampl at No. 3 to seal the victory.

- With the loss, WSU falls to 20-4, 5-3 in Pac-12 play
- WSU lost the opening doubles point for only the fourth time in 24 matches.
- The win by senior Barbora Michalkova over No. 42 Emily Arbuthnott was the highest ranked victory of her career.
- Freshman Michaela Bayerlova improved to 6-1 against nationally-ranked players with a three-set win over No. 15 Michaela Gordon. Bayerlova is now 26-2 in singles this season.
- WSU will recognize its lone senior, Barbora Michalkova, prior to Saturday's match against California.
