Cougars Remain Undefeated after Defeating Purdue, 7-0
 
PULLMAN, Wash.—Washington State University remained undefeated on the young season following an 7-0 victory over Purdue Saturday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingberry Fieldhouse. The Cougars opened the match by capturing the two opening doubles matches for the first point. Freshmen Michaela Bayerlova was able to bring the first singles win of the day after a competitive match against No. 86 Silvia Ambrosio, ending with a score of 6-4, 6-1. In fact, the first four singles matches were all won by the Cougars in straight-sets. Senior Barbora Michalkova won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 after going into a tiebreaker in the first set, improving her career-best win streak to 12. Guzal Yusupova clinched the win with 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Aneta Miksovska saved two match points in her third set tiebreaker before winning 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11) at No. 5. The Cougars improve to 6-0 to start the season with today marking the first win in the series against Purdue.

Things to Know:

• Bayerlova's win over No. 86 Silvia Ambrosio is her second win this season against a ranked opponent.
• The Cougars advance to 6-0 for the 2018 season, their best start since going 12-0 to start the 2016-17 campaign.
• Freshmen Michaela Bayerlova improves to 11-0 as a collegian, tied for third best winning streaks to start the season since 1983.
• Senior Bara Michalkova is now 12-0 for the 2018 season, continuing her career-best win streak.
• Junior Tiffany Mylonas improved to a 17-2 record for the season, with the most wins of the team thus far.
• The Cougars improved to 1-2 against Purdue, gaining their first victory against the Big Ten team.
• The 2018 season has been the first in the history of WSU women's tennis to include wins against two Big Ten teams.
• Next up, the Cougars travel to Manhattan, Kansas to face North Texas on Saturday.
