No. 16 Seed Cougars Set to Face No. 1 Seed Stanford Friday

QUICK NOTES
>> Washington State continued to roll in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, defeating Tennessee in a second round matchup Saturday evening inside Bohler Gym, 3-1.

>> The Cougars will now face number one overall seeded, and region host Stanford, Friday, December 7 inside Maples Pavilion in a Sweet Sixteen contest slated for 5:30 p.m. PT.

>> This will be the third meeting between the Cougars and the Cardinal, with Stanford winning the previous two Pac-12 matches 3-0 in Stanford, and 3-1 overall in Pullman.



How Sweet It Is
Washington State's victory over the Volunteers of Tennessee to advance into the round of 16 is the third overall appearance in the Sweet Sixteen for the Cougars. The previous trips came in 1996 when WSU traveled to Stanford, Cali., 1997 in Madison, Wis., and most recently 2002 when the Cougars set out to Gainesville, Fla.

WSU Earns Three AVCA All-Region Selections
Washington State Volleyball saw three overall AVCA Pacific North All-Region selections with Taylor Mims earning All-Region honors, while McKenna Woodford, and Jocelyn Urias received Honorable Mention picks as well. Mims most recently guided the Cougars to NCAA Tournament First and Second Round victories over Northern Arizona, and the University of Tennessee. Woodford led the offensive attack this past weekend in the opening round sof the NCAA Tournament, helping the Cougars pick up wins over NAU and UT with 16 kills against the Lumberjacks, and 19 against the Volunteers. Urias posted solid matches in the tournament victories over both NAU and UT, as she totaled 13 kills, a .423 hitting percentage, four aces, and two blocks against Northern Arizona.

WSU Sees Four Named to All-Pac-12 Teams
WSU saw seniors Taylor Mims, and McKenna Woodford named to the All-Pac-12 Team after fantastic regular seasons in 2018. Mims earned her second overall All-Pac-12 selection, while this was Woodford's first. Juniors Jocelyn Urias, and Ashley Brown each notched All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention picks for the Cougars after turning in stellar seasons as well this year.

Cougars up to No. 19 in Latest AVCA Coaches Poll
The Cougars jump up one spot to number 19 overall in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, tying Tennessee for the same spot in the poll as well. The Pac-12 remains strong the the rankings with Stanford taking over the number one spot with 63 first place votes, followed by Oregon (14), USC (17), Washington (22), Arizona (23), and Utah, and Colorado each receiving votes.
