PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The Washington State men's golf team remains in 17th after the second day of competition at the Saint Mary's Intercollegiate, Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course at Pebble Beach, Calif.
With a score of 296 (+12), the Cougars improved by seven strokes from the previous round, putting them at a two-round score of 599 (+31). Washington State sits just one stroke behind No. 36 Nevada in 16th, and two strokes ahead of Toledo. The top three teams remain unchanged with No. 19 BYU (-19, 549) in first, followed by No. 8 Pepperdine (-5, 563) and Arizona (-3, 565) in second and third respectively.
Pac-12 standings in the tournament were shaken up today as No. 10 USC (-2, 566) and Oregon (-1, 567) both jumped four spots into fourth and fifth respectively, making them the only other teams that are below par through two rounds. Next for the conference is Oregon State (+11, 579) which dropped three places into ninth and Utah (+16, 584) who dropped one place into 11th.
Junior Nicklaus Chiam (+7, 149) who shot a 70 (-1) on the day, led the Cougars as the only team member to go under par in the second round. He sits in a tie for 59th. Junior Daniel Kolar (+4, 146) leads Washington State in placing, sitting in a tie for 42nd. Next for WSU is sophomore Ryan Maine (+9, 151) who is tied for 68th, followed by senior AJ Armstrong (+13, 155) who sits alone in 91st. Senior Grant Cole (+16, 158) rounds out the Cougars in 97th.
