Saint Mary’s Intercollegiate up Next for the Cougs

Washington State men’s golf heads down to Pebble Beach, Calif., to finish its fall season.

THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team will wrap up the fall season at the Saint Mary's Intercollegiate Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 5-7 at the Poppy Hills Golf Club at Pebble Beach, Calif…. the Cougars will be back on the green for the first time since early October.

THE COURSE: The 7,002-yard course will play at a par 71 this week…Poppy Hills has played host to the annual Saint Mary's Intercollegiate since 2006…the course was recently renovated in 2013…the newly renovated Poppy Hills was reopened in April of 2014, and has since hosted the Champions Tour's Nature Valley Open. Participants will play one round a day, with tee times ranging from 7:30 to 9:50 a.m. A practice round will be held the day before competition begins, Nov. 4.

THE FIELD: Joining WSU in competition this week will be Saint Mary's, Arizona, BYU, UCF, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Southern California, Toledo, UNC Wilmington, and Utah.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: The Cougars will be competing for the first time since the first week of October, when they finished in eighth of 12 teams at the Paintbrush Invitational at Parker, Colo., carding a three-round score of 897 (+33)…Washington State was led by senior AJ Armstrong (+5, 221), who has yet to finish outside of the top 25 this season, finishing in a tie for 17th his last time out…junior Daniel Kolar (+6, 222) finished just one stroke behind Armstrong, tying for 21st…senior Grant Cole (+11, 227) and junior Nicklaus Chiam (+11, 227) both tied for 32nd…junior Scott Redelsperger (+24, 240) rounded off the team effort for the Cougars finishing in a tie for 65th…sophomore Ryan Maine (+31, 247) competed as an individual, taking 71st in the competition.

LAST TIME AT THE SAINT MARY'S INTERCOLLEGIATE: Last time at Pebble Beach, the Cougars placed 17th overall after carding a three-round score of 883 (+31) in 2017…the charge was led by then-sophomore Daniel Kolar, who tied for 20th with a score of 212 (-1)…Kolar was the only Cougar to score under par and place in the top 25.

THE LINEUP: Representing the Cougars this week will be seniors AJ Armstrong and Grant Cole, juniors Daniel Kolar and Nicklaus Chiam, and sophomore Ryan Maine.

COACHES: Head coach Dustin White will lead his team on the Poppy Hills Golf Course in his third year as a head coach for Washington State, after spending four years on the Cougar men's golf team from 1999-2003…Kevin Tucker will be assisting White in his first year as an assistant coach after playing on the golf team for four years as well from 2006-2010.
