Portland, Ore. – The Washington State University women's rowing team traveled west to Portland, Ore., to compete in the 12th Portland Fall Classic, Sunday morning on the Willamette River. The Cougars sent two varsity eight boats and four varsity four boats.
 
"It was fun to return to the Portland Fall Classic; the team handled the venue and conditions really well. We prioritized the fours today and I liked what I saw. We are all one race more experienced. Go Cougs!" said head coach Jane LaRiviere.
 
The Cougars started the day with the women's division I varsity eight race, putting the varsity eight crew up against Portland and Oregon State. The WSU varsity eight (coxswain - Juliet Perry, Emma Barrett, Linnea Davison, Ella Cowan de Wolf, Isabella Cristelli, Emma Dockray, Madeleine Bingham, Sara Brevick, Soleil Lakin) finished the 5-kilometer course with a time of 17:50.422 to finish third behind Portland in first (17:34.115) and Oregon State in second (17:48.109).
 
WSU raced its second varsity eight (coxswain – Ciara McCall, Olivia Olmstead, Ellie Higgins, Ony Chigozie, Rachael Christman, Nora Hefte, Madison Williams, Katelyn Ware, Cassidy Thompson) in the junior varsity eight race, finishing with a time of 17:58.069. The Cougars were second behind Oregon State (17:48.033) and nearly a minute ahead of Portland in third (18:52.931).
 
In the varsity four race, WSU's varsity four (coxswain - Juliet Perry, Lisa Gutfleisch, Ivy Elling Quaintance, Grace Arnis, Paige Danielson) finished first with a time of 18:05. Oregon State followed to capture second place (18:24.655). The second varsity four (coxswain - Chloe White, Kamila Ondrackova, Leena Kattel, Rosalina Torcivia, Sue Yu) finished third with a time of 18:33.570.
 
The third varsity four (coxswain - Hannah Welzbacker, Emma Gribbon, Jasmine Brake, Colombe deRouvroy, Sophia Rogers) secured first place with a time of 18:41.379 in the women's collegiate junior varsity four race, followed by WSU's fourth varsity four (coxswain - Kailee Williams, McKenna Menner, Taija Thompson, Megan Duthart, 
Emma Conaty) who captured second with a time of 18:46.957. Oregon State had crews finish third and fourth, while Portland finished fifth.
 
WSU will travel to Spokane on Nov. 3 to race against Gonzaga University and Oregon State to finish the fall season.
