WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE
STANFORD, Calif. -- The Washington State Cross Country programs ran in the 2018 Pac-12 Championships Friday at the Stanford Golf Course, where the WSU Women took home eighth place, and the Cougar Men placed fifth overall.
WSU WOMEN
The Washington State women's program, currently ranked 15th overall in the west region, placed eighth overall in the 6k race against fellow Pac-12 member programs.
The top runner for the Cougars was
Vallery Korir who finished 39th overall with a time of 21:06.4 in the meet. Following Korir was
Zorana Grujic who recorded a time of 21:18.3 for a finish of 47th overall.
Emma Jenkins followed with a time of 21:26.0 to finish 54th overall.
Kaili Keefe soon crossed the finish line as well in 63rd place (21:38.0), with
Janet Okeago (21:39.9),
Marie Gaudin (22:10.3),
Samantha King-Shaw (22:18.3), and
Pia Richards (22:40.5) all following as well.
Oregon finished first overall at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships with 32 overall points, followed by Colorado with 48, and Stanford in third with 81 total points.
"Very excited about and very proud of both teams today," said
Wayne Phipps. "Being 8th for the women was a was a strong step forward and we will be a lot better in two weeks as this was the first race with a full team. It was exciting to see that two of our top runners today were freshmen."
WSU MEN
The men's program, currently ranked No. 29 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA), finished fifth overall in the 8k race.
Leading the way for the Cougars once again was senior
Chandler Teigen finishing 7th overall with a time of 23:12.1 to record his second straight top-10 finish at the Pac-12 Championships.
Nathan Wadhwani followed his fellow teammate with a finish of 21st overall at 23:33.4.
Amir Ado notched a top-30 finish as well with a time of 23:47.0 to finish 28th overall. The Cougars then saw
Colton Johnsen place 34th (23:54.8),
Justin Janke in 36th (23:59.8),
Kyler Little placing 41st (24:15.9),
Paul Ryan in 49th (24:34.7),
Andrew Cooper in 58th place (24:52.3),
Zach Stallings in 60th (25:02.5), and
Cameron Dean finishing 62nd (25:06.3) overall.
Stanford finished first overall at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships with 44 total points, followed by Washington in second with 62, and Colorado in third overall with 82 points scored.
"Our men ran a very intelligent race and beating number 12 in the nation UCLA was confirmation that we are moving in the right direction," Coach Phipps discussed. "All of our preparation is for 10km so we are very excited for the regional meet. Chandler was awesome today, and a reminder that he can run with just about anyone in the nation. A great confidence booster for him and for our team."

Washington State will now look ahead to competing in the NCAA West Regional, Friday, November 9, in Sacramento, California, and will be held at the Haggin Oaks Golf Club.
