Urias Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

The junior led the WSU offense in a pair of top-25 Pac-12 upsets over the weekend.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Washington State's Jocelyn Urias was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-Oct. 21 as announced by the Pac-12 Conference office Monday. The junior became the first Cougar to earn the award in 2018 and the first to earn the honor since Taylor Mims, Oct. 3, 2016. The weekly award was the first career Player of the Week honor for Urias as well.

Over the weekend, Urias led Washington State to a pair of victories over No. 14 USC, and No. 20 UCLA inside Bohler Gym to see the Cougars remain a perfect 7-0 when playing at home in 2018. Jocelyn provided 13 kills Friday evening against the Trojans, while totaling 13.0 points, and hitting .286 overall. The five-set thriller featured Urias providing the match-winning kill in the final set for the 18-16 victory over USC. The Cougars continued to ride the momentum of that win into Sunday, where Jocelyn recorded a match-high 14 kills, and a career-high hitting percentage of .700 overall. The middle displayed a dominate offensive performance against the Bruins, seeing WSU earn its' first sweep over UCLA since 1996, and the first ever 3-0 sweep of the Bruins inside Bohler Gym. 

Weekly totals for Jocelyn included 27 total kills, a .458 hitting percentage, six digs, and three total blocks against the the Trojans, and Bruins. Notably WSU has not swept a weekend series over USC, and UCLA since 1997, defeating the then No. 7 Trojans 3-2, and beating the No. 18 Bruins 3-1.

The Cougars return to action, Wednesday, October 24 on the road against Utah inside of the Jon M. Huntsman Center with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
