King-Shaw, Cooper Top Cougs at Inland Empire Championships

WSU Men place second, and the Women finish fifth overall in Lewiston

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE
LEWISTON, Idaho  --  The Washington State Women's and Men's Cross Country squads competed in the 2018 Inland Empire Championships, Saturday morning at the LCSC Cross Country Course.

WSU WOMEN
The Washington State women's team, currently ranked 14th overall in the west region, placed fifth overall in the 6k race, as the Cougs saw three runners place in the top-20 during the meet. 

The top runner for WSU was sophomore Samantha King-Shaw who placed 14th overall with a time of 18:06 in the race. Fellow Washington State runner Pia Richards finished 15th overall just behind King-Shaw, and Marie Gaudin landed herself in 19th place with a time of 18:10 as well. Rounding out the field for the Cougars was Alexis Redfield in 43rd (18:42), Kiyena Beatty placing 65th overall (19:06), Geneva Schlepp in 102nd (19:58), and Elena Willems in 125th (20:41) overall.

Boise State finished first overall in the Inland Empire Championships with 18 overall points, followed by the University of Calgary with 105, and Montana in third with 111 total points. 



WSU MEN
The men's program, currently ranked No. 17 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA), placed second overall in the 8k race, with four runners finishing in the top-15. 

Leading the way for the Cougs was sophomore Andrew Cooper placing seventh overall with a time of 24:35 during the meet. Cameron Dean followed Cooper in ninth at 24:42, and Zach Stallings notched a top ten finish as well in 10th with a time of 24:43. Matthew Watkins earned himself a 12th place finish with a time 24:45, followed up by Nate Pendleton in 33rd (25:17), Kennan Schrag placing 39th (25:25), Jacob Nicholson in 52nd (25:40), Zak Kindl finishing 94th (26:29), and Luke Schilter in 104th (26:44).

Gonzaga placed first overall in the Inland Empire Championships with 55 total points, followed by Washington State in second with 68, and Boise State in third overall with 69 points scored.
