WSU Volleyball Sweeps New Hampshire to Open Fairfield Invite

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE…
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Washington State volleyball team took a 25-15, 25-22, 25-13 win over New Hampshire (2-7) as the Cougars moved to a 6-1 record Friday afternoon at the Fairfield Invitational at Alumni Hall in Fairfield, Conn.

Alexis Dirige had eight digs and Abby Phillips added a WSU-career high seven digs.

The Cougars hit .223 for the match and held the Wildcats to a .031 team hitting percentage. WSU out-hit UNH 37 to 26, and also won the blocking tally 11 to 1, the aces 7 to 2 and the digs totals 40-39.

WHY & HOW...
WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said, "Overall I thought we did a pretty good job. I thought our serving was solid and did a pretty good job blocking but definitely need to be not so streaky. It was hard to get something going in that second set and we need to be more consistent going forward."

About the series of traded runs in the second set Greeny said, "We were passing not well and then we were passing well and our hitters weren't putting the ball away. It was a little bit of everything and we need some more leadership during those times where we just can't get a sideout. It was good that we came back but we definitely can't let the other team go on streaks like that."

On the match completion Greeny said, "We made some adjustments, maybe mentally, so it was good to see us make those adjustments after the break and get things done."

On the Cougars blocking Greeny said, "They were running their hitters kid of everywhere with a lot of crossing plays and some distractions but I think our blockers did a good job of keying on their hitters and setting up a solid block."
