WHY & HOW...
WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said, "I thought we were definitely more consistent tonight than we were this afternoon. This is a really good Fairfield team and they do some things really well. I give credit to them but at the same time we also cleaned up our offensive numbers quite a bit which I was pleased with. I thought the outsides did a really nice job tonight. We moved our hitters around a little bit more tonight so the setters can take some of that credit as well. Definitely more clean than this afternoon and we'll need more of that.

"Claire Martin, hitting .571, did a really nice job taking care of the ball. The setters are getting used to playing with each other more in these new positions and I thought Claire did set a solid block. That was good to see and hopefully she can carry this confidence over to tomorrow night."

About the Cougars schedule Greeny said, "That's what we were looking at when we made this schedule: we want teams that are going to challenge us, that are well-coached and used to winning, and have been to the NCAA tournament. I think we've done that with this schedule so far. We knew that we were going to have a lot of inexperience as far as players in new positions and new players. So far I'm happy with how the schedule has gone and that we have had a lot of room to make adjustments and grow and gel more as a team."

Junior outside hitter McKenna Woodford said, "
Tomorrow when we face Fairfield I would like us to really get our block going. That is something we need to work on as a whole and something that will be huge when Pac-12 play comes around. The difference between the earlier match and the match against Fairfield was my ability to trust my swings, mix up my shots, and stay poised and calm in the midst of a chaotic play. The coaches gave me a few things to work on after game one and I was really able to focus my attention on those few things. This really helped me refresh my mindset and play more relaxed."
