Six Cougars Named to Pac-12 Volleyball All-Academic Teams

SAN FRANCISCO -- For the second consecutive year, the Washington State volleyball team had six players selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday.
Leading the Cougars on the 2017 Pac-12 Volleyball All-Academic teams are senior Casey Schoenlein and junior McKenna Woodford who were named to the seven-member First Team. Schoenlein, an opposite from Bellevue, Wash., was a First Team selection for the third consecutive year. She has a 3.94 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in Journalism and Media Production. Woodford, an outside hitter from Chandler, Ariz., has a 3.81 GPA and is majoring in Biological Sciences.
Olivia Coale was named to the seven-member All-Academic Second Team. Coale, a junior defensive specialist from Vancouver, Wash., has a 3.68 GPA and is majoring in Human Development, planning to pursue a career in nursing.
A trio of Cougars were named to the honorable mention team with junior Claire Martin, a middle blocker/opposite from Bremerton, Wash., earning the accolades for a second year. Martin has a 3.26 GPA majoring in mechanical engineering. Other WSU honorable mention selections were Alexis Dirige, a sophomore libero from San Francisco, with a 3.20 GPA planning to major in Sport Science, and junior middle blocker Ella Lajos from San Jose, Calif., with a 3.10 GPA and majoring in Advertising.
A total of 63 student-athletes were selected to the 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic teams. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's matches.
