Emily Cook Breaks School Record at Ohio State Invite

Freshman Emily Cook breaks the school record in the 100 back at the first day of the Ohio State Invite.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After one day of competition, the Cougars are in eighth place at the Ohio State Invite. They currently sit ahead of University of South Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast University, and West Virginia University. The Cougars had great performances from their athletes, including a school record in the 100 back, seven season best times, and three athletes recording Top-Ten times in program history.
"Sounds like it has been a great day for the Cougs!" said head coach Tom Jager. "The swimmers held up their end of the bargain by setting a school record in the 100 Backstroke. Emily Cook led off our 400 Medley Relay with a 53.70 and new team record. Alba Flores had a great first day posting a solid 4:49 in the 500 free. Hannah Bruggman led a sprint group that had best times all around lower her PB to 22.72. Nice start to the meet for us today. We look forward to keeping the momentum going tomorrow."
Freshman Emily Cook led off the 400 Medley Relay team with a record-breaking performance. Cook clocked in at 53.70 in the 100 back portion of the event to set a school record. Alongside teammates Linnea Lindberg, Anna Brolin, and Hannah Bruggman, the team was able to clock in at a season-best time of 3:39.81 for eighth place. Bruggman was also a member of the 200 Free Relay team that finished ninth. Bruggman, Kelly Morgan, Rachel Thompson, and Chloe Larson clocked in at 1:32.13.
Alba Fores, a freshman from Lund, Sweden, had an outstanding performance in the 500 free, taking 13th overall with a time of 4:49.15. Fores' is the fastest time for the Cougars this season, and is the third fastest in program history for the event. Ryan Falk and Jasmine Margetts etched their names in the WSU Top-Ten, clocking in at 4:52.00 (fifth) and 4:52.05 (sixth), respectively.
Bruggman led the way for the Cougars in the 50 free, taking 11th overall with a season-best time of 22.73. Morgan found her way into the Top-30 in the event, clocking in at 23.33 for 27th place. Morgan's time is eighth fastest in program history. Thompson and Larson swam well in the event, finishing 35th and 37th, respectively. Larson's time of 23.69 in the event is a season-best.
The Cougars will be back in the pool Saturday, Nov. 18 for the second day of the Ohio State Invite.
