PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's golf team is in first place with a score of 582 ( 6) after two rounds of play at the WSU Cougar Cup, Monday, at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
The Cougars are one stroke ahead of second-place Idaho ( 7, 583) and three strokes ahead of third-place Cal State Fullerton ( 9, 585). WSU leads the field of 10, with in-state rivals Seattle in sixth ( 26, 602) and Eastern Washington ( 43, 619) in eighth.
"I'm excited about the progress we're making in terms of utilizing the different tools we've been working on," WSU Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said. "They've been working a lot on the mental game and really focusing on what they're capable of doing which was awesome to see today."
Leading the Cougars are juniors Bree Wanderscheid and Alivia Brown, who are tied for third even-par with a two-round score of 144. Brown carded seven birdies throughout the day.
Senior Cherokee Kim finished the day in ninth place, shooting 2-over par (146). Kim shot 1-under par on the back nine in the second round.Â
Sophomore Madison Odiorne had a two-round score of 148 ( 4) and is tied for 11th place. In her second collegiate appearance for the Cougars, freshman Elodie Bridenne is tied for 30th with a score of 155 ( 11), carding four birdies throughout the day.Â
Junior Jamie Midkiff, competing as an individual, finished the day tied for 42nd, with a two-round score of 156 ( 12).
"We had a rough stretch in the middle today, but we really fought back at the end and put ourselves in a good position for tomorrow," Kamimura said.
