SEATTLE -- Washington State junior Liz Harper, competing in her second collegiate heptathlon, is in second place and junior Dino Dodig is in fourth place at the Pac-12 Combined Events Championships at Husky Track in Seattle.
Harper, from Missoula, Mont., has a PR first day total of 3,495 points after four events. The accomplished 400m hurdler opened the day with a 100m hurdles time of 13.81 seconds and followed with a PR clearance in the high jump of 5-feet, 11 1/4 inches (1.81m). She then threw the shot put a distance of 35-11 3/4 (10.71m) and finished the first day with a PR 200m time of 24.61.
Lindsey Schauble (freshman, Kennewick, Wash.) is in 11th place (out of 14 competitors) after the first day with 2,735 points. Schauble, ran the 100m hurdles in a PR time of 15.00 and high jumped 4-11 1/2 (1.51m). She threw the shot put of 30-7 3/4 (9.34m) and ran the 200m in a PR time of 26.25.
The 2014 Pac-12 Heptathlon Champion, Amalie Iuel from USC, leads with a first day total of 3,709 points. WSU junior Alissa Brooks-Johnson, the 2015 Pac-12 Heptathlon champion, received a medical recommendation late last week to not compete.
In the decathlon, junior Dino Dodig (Novi Sad, Serbia) is in fourth place with a PR of 3,909 points and a mere 13 points away from third place. Arizona redshirt senior Pau Tonnesen is leading the 10-man field after the first five events with 4,025 points.
Dodig opened the decathlon with a 100m dash time of 11.19, had a PR long jump leap of 23-3 1/4 (7.09m), threw the shot put a distance of 38-1 1/2 (11.62m), high jumped 6-6 3/4 (2.00m), and ran the 400m in WSU PR time of 48.83.
“A great first day with day one PRs for everybody and a number of individual event PRs,” Director of WSU Cross Country/Track & Field Wayne Phipps said. “All three Cougars have set up themselves very well to accomplish their individual goals and our team goals for tomorrow.”
The Pac-12 Combined Events Championships continue Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Husky Track.
