Evans Kurui Named 2025 Pac-12 Male Track & Field Top Performer

| By:
The Pac-12 announced today its selections for the top performers of the 2025 outdoor track & field season. Completing its first season as a two-team league in the sport of track & field, the Pac-12 worked to determine individual recognitions for men's and women's track & field across the Oregon State and Washington State programs.

Following the 2025-26 academic year, the Pac-12 will expand to include Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State, Texas State, and Utah State.

Men's Track & Field Top Performer – Evans Kurui, Washington State

WSU sophomore Evan Kurui finished fifth in the 10,000-meter final to clinch First-Team All-America honors at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, becoming the seventh Cougar in the last four seasons to garner outdoor All-American recognition. Kurui, competing in his first outdoor championship, sat at the back of the pack early in the race, moving up throughout the race to take the lead at the final-lap bell. After getting pushed in the back on the penultimate curve, Kurui recovered, despite falling out of position, to finish in 29:10.91 and three seconds behind the national champion.

The Kenyan became the ninth Cougar men's 10,000 runner to earn All-American honors and is the first WSU men's 10,000-meter All-American since Josephat Kapkory and Patrick Muturi both earned the recognition in 1994. He also had the top time in the nation in the 10k this season, finishing with a time of 27:37:32 at the Stanford Invitational.

Women's Track & Field Top Performer – Sara Sanders, Oregon State

OSU senior Sara Sanders earned honorable-mention All-America honors in the javelin at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Competing at historic Hayward Field in her first-ever NCAA Championship appearance, Sanders delivered a strong performance in the javelin, placing 18th overall with a mark of 48.47m (159-0). The senior's throw marked a powerful conclusion to a remarkable comeback journey. After missing two seasons due to injury, Sanders returned to competition last year and fought her way back to the national stage.

Sanders also served as President of the Oregon State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a member of the Pac-12 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She was named the 2025 Pac-12 Women's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year as she pursues her MBA at Oregon State.
