Washington State Drops Game Two of Series at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. –The University of Oregon evened the weekend series against Washington State with an 8-0 victory at PK Park Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (14-24, 7-13 Pac-12) received two more hits apiece from freshman catcher Ty Johnson and junior leftfielder Cameron Frost. The Ducks improved to 19-17 overall and 8-9 in conference play behind starting pitcher Cole Irwin's impressive performance. The left-hander struck out 13 and scattered six hits in a complete-game effort.

Washington State junior starter Ian Hamilton went 6.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits.

Oregon scored once in the second on a couple bunts and a Cougar throwing error and added another in the third with a solo homer. Two more runs came home in the fourth with a two-out two-run single for a 4-0 lead. The Ducks put the game out reach with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.

That was more than enough for Irwin who kept the Cougars off balance throughout the afternoon to even the series at 1-1 after WSU took Friday's opener 4-0.

GAME NOTESTrek Stemp saw his hitting streak end at 11 games and his on-base streak end at 12……the series wraps up Sunday at Noon.
