Bayley Leads Cougars to 10th-Place Finish

LIHUE, Hawaii – The Washington State men's golf team finished 10th at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday, with a three-round score of 880 (+16).

“We got off to a really rough start and despite us working to come back we struggled to get back and catch other teams,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “We had some great things happen, we just need to learn and grow from the week.”

WSU shot 11-over par in the third round to finish behind tournament -champion No. 7 Texas, which led each round to card a total score of 844 (-20). California (-15, 849) and Texas A&M (-1, 863) finished in second and third, respectively.

Sophomore Derek Bayley tied for seventh to record his fifth top-25 finish of the year. With a total score of 214 (-2), Bayley finished four strokes back of co-champions Beau Hossler and Gavin Hall of Texas, K.K. Limbhasut of California, and Skye Inakoshi of Hawaii (-6, 210).

Freshman Aaron Whalen shot 3-over par in the final round to bring his score to 219 (+3). Whalen tied for 32nd with three other golfers, three strokes ahead of junior Nick Mandell, who tied for 44th (+6, 222).

Freshman AJ Armstrong tied for 57th (+10, 226) while sophomore Zach Anderson tied for 82nd (+16, 232).

Next up, the Cougars will compete at the Bandon Dunes Championships, March 6-8, in Bandon, Ore., at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
